2016 Audi A4 0-60: Is It Satisfying?

by

Compared to its newer rivals, the new 2016 Audi A4 0-60 may not appear as exciting or fresh as them. Even so, Audi A4 has its well-rounded nature that still makes it a truly enticing choice for the entry-level luxury sedan class. For the 2016 model year, this luxury sedan eliminates the top Prestige trim level, allowing for the changes in equipment for the remaining two trims. A three-spoke steering wheel and heated mirrors are now standard even on the base Premium trim, but there’s no longer an adaptive cruise control on any A4.

Getting back to the 0-60 reviews, this Audi should be happy with its rather unimpressive performance compared to the other rides in its class. Let’s mention the latest 2016 Audi A4 1.5 TSI 150 Sport which should be satisfied with its capability to sprint 0-60 MPH in 8.6 seconds. The 2015 is even better than its 2016 version as it is able to go for 7.6 seconds.

Now, there are only Premium and Premium Plus trim levels. All of them feature the 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine, rated at 220 horsepower of total output in addition to 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Coming as standard includes the front-wheel drive system and a CVT or continuously variable transmission. There is the all-wheel drive system too, which is available with either an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. With the CVT, the fuel economy rating is estimated at 27 mpg combined, with 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. With the manual, the rating slightly drops to 26 mpg combined and 25 with the automatic.

The turbocharged 4-cylinder engine exceed beyond its weight, thus providing a responsive acceleration that should satisfy and impress most shoppers. Even so, rivals especially Mercedes and BMW offer more pep with better fuel economy rating. The standard suspension for A4 is controlled, but pretty supple with a satisfying balance that doesn’t go overly sporty. Opt for the Sport package with lowered suspension if you wish to enjoy good times with some of the sharpest handling, even though it will diminish the ride quality accordingly. The availability of 19-inch tires also add something exceptional when you drive the A4.

The company estimates this sedan can accelerate to reach 60 mph from null only in 6.6 seconds with CVT. With manual transmission, the figure improves to 6.4 seconds. And with the engine paired with the 8-speed automatic, the Audi A4 0-60 can sprint from zero to 60 in just 6.2 seconds, marking as one of the quickest in its class.
